Resources
NIU Official Transcript Submission Requirements
NIU has updated its official transcript requirements to better protect students and schools from fraudulent applications. High school counselors can now submit transcripts electronically through recognized third-party vendors like Parchment, Naviance or SCOIR, mail them directly to our office in sealed envelopes, or provide them to students in original sealed envelopes for in-person delivery. Our admissions team is available to support counselors and students through any challenges with the updated transcript submission process and remains committed to maintaining accessible, straightforward procedures while ensuring document security.
NIU Holistic Admissions Review Process
Our holistic review preparation page guides students through NIU's comprehensive application review process for applicants with GPAs below 3.0. The page provides step-by-step instructions for completing required personal statement questions that address academic goals, personal growth, support systems and leadership experiences. Students learn what to expect during each phase, including seventh semester grade requirements and potential interviews. The resource includes practical tips for managing deadlines, drafting responses and seeking feedback to help students present their strongest application and understand how NIU evaluates potential for academic success beyond traditional metrics.
One Click Admit Program
Illinois students can now participate in the One Click Admit program for direct admission to public universities and community colleges without fees or essays. Juniors complete an opt-in form with their parent or guardian to share their GPA and receive direct admission offers during fall of their senior year, while seniors can create a Common App account and enter their GPA to start receiving offers immediately. Community college students with 30+ transferable credits can opt in now for the transfer program launching January 2026. Learn more at oneclickadmit.org.
